Hanks was the voice actor for Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated movie Toy Story (1995). The next year Hanks made his directorial debut with the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the rise and decline of a 1960s pop group, also playing the role of a music producer. The Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming" and many experts agree that Hanks performances earned him a place among the top romantic comedy actors of his generation.
