Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and commentary on gender representations in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational and non-profit site that examines female representations within popular culture's narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women and the way they are portrayed in popular media. Furthermore, she is working to increase awareness about internet-based harassment targeting women, as well as other marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social thought from York University, is also popular as a public speaking. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Since her early years she was captivated by the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she launched the Feminist Frequency website. An ambitious woman set out to develop a web-series to study the gender roles in games. But, she discovered herself in the middle of an internet harassment campaign. But the harassment did not deter her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous prizes and founded Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies how women are represented in pop media narratives.
